Load-Independent Voltage Balancing of Multi-Level Flying Capacitor Converters in Quasi-2-Level Operation

چکیده

Quasi-2-level (Q2L) operation of multi-level bridge-legs, especially flying-capacitor converters (FCC), is an interesting option for realizing single-cell power conversion in applications whose system voltages exceed the ratings available semiconductors. To ensure equal voltage sharing among a Q2L-FCC’s switches, minimized flying capacitors (FCs) must always be balanced. Thus, we propose concept load-independent FC balancing: For non-zero load current, use model predictive control (MPC) approach to identify commutation sequence individual switches within Q2L transition that minimizes or cell errors. In case zero employ novel MPC-based using multiple switching (CMS), i.e., insertion additional zero-current commutations transition, exchange charge between FCs via charging currents switches’ parasitic capacitances. Experiments with 5-level FCC half-bridge demonstrator confirm validity derived models and verify performance proposed balancing concept.

32-bit Adder for Low Voltage Operation with Level Converters

The purpose of this project is to lower the power consumption by reducing the operating voltage of a 32-bit adder, implemented with TSMC035 technology. The delay and power dissipation of the circuit at different voltages were studied and based on the power delay product an optimal voltage of operation was chosen. A level converter circuit was designed, in order to make the circuit compatible wi...

Modulator for 4-level Flying Capacitor Converter with Balancing Control in the Closed Loop

This paper presents a modulator with an active voltage balancing control for the three-phase fourlevel FLC converter based electric motor drive for applications supplied directly from a 6 kV ac-grid. It describes a modulation algorithm of the FLC converter by using the phase shifted PWM modulation with balancing voltage of the flying capacitor by using P controllers in the closed loop. The prop...

Pulsewidth Modulations for the Comprehensive Capacitor Voltage Balance of n-Level Three-Leg Diode-Clamped Converters

In the previous literature, the introduction of the virtual-space-vector (VV) concept for the three-level, three-leg neutral-point-clamped converter has led to the definition of pulsewidth modulation (PWM) strategies, guaranteeing a dc-link capacitor voltage balance in every switching cycle under any type of load, with the only requirement being that the addition of the three phase currents equ...

A Multi-Level Diffusion Method for Dynamic Load Balancing

Horton, G., A multi-level diffusion method for dynamic load balancing, Parallel Computing 19 (1993) 209-218. We consider the problem of dynamic load balancing for multiprocessors, for which a typical application is a parallel finite element solution method using non-structured grids and adaptive grid refinement. This type of application requires communication between the subproblems which arise...
